Dear Organic Soil Solutions customer,
Any of you who have been with us for a few years have known and worked with Edson Dorigo. It has been my pleasure to see his smiling face just about every day of the seven years I have owned the company. The kid who used to break everything has become the man who fixes everything. Edson has always been pleasant and cheerful, hard working and careful, willing to learn and happy to do the best job possible. Any workshop on organic lawn care will find him in the front row. He will often say of a customer, "He is a good man" or, "They are nice people" and he really means it. Edson is not impressed by pretense and rarely speaks ill of anyone.
Edson have taught me a lot about treating people with respect. He has inspired me with his hard work and determination. Last month we had a fire at our house and my family and our office had to move to a hotel. Edson stepped in to keep things going during Organic Soil Solutions' busiest time. Whenever I feel I've pushed him too far, he smiles wearily, and offers some bright and optimistic pearl of wisdom to lift my spirits.
A couple of years ago, Edson wrote a screen play in the off season. He obtained funding and it was produced, starring Edson Dorigo and some professional actors flown in from Brazil. You may have seen him with his head shaved last year. His character had cancer. Clips are available at www.deixameviver.com. Now he needs time off to meet with Broadway producers in New York while dining at fancy restaurants. Really.
Edson Dorigo will be leaving Organic Soil Solutions on December 1. If you see him around, wish him well. We will miss him dearly, but this talented young man has new worlds to conquer.
Thanks,
Michael Murray

Dear Mike,
We will be sorry to see Edson go, but we are supremely happy that he is realizing success in what he is passionate about. What a wonderful, positive, respectful, helpful, cheerful person he is! I know he will be successful, and we hope that he will always have the same character no matter where his life takes him. What a loss he will be for you. I also want to say that you are a very special person to have formed the relationship that you have with Edson. I wish all businesses were run like you run yours–with integrity and respect for others. Although we only know you in relation to our lawn, we know you must be an unusual person to work for, to have employees like you do, and then to point out their strengths in such a humble way. There aren’t many “bosses” out there like you. We wish you great success in all you do. By the way, our lawn is beautiful–and I finally persuaded my husband to leave the clippings
Sincerely,
Debbie
Had to write and say how nice to get that letter. Nice to hear of Edson’s good fortune. I like to hope that being a really nice person will somehow get paid back, and the little I had the pleasure to see Edson here, I always walked away thinking, “Wow, what a nice, pleasant guy!” He has that good energy. And good for you to send the letter and give people pause to celebrate someone’s hard-earned success. We hear enough about Madof and Bin laden, so this is certainly refreshing! Please tell him the Twinings will miss his bright greeting and thank him for his diligent, caring service. Our little patch of earth is greener for it. Please tell him we wish him the world of luck with his writing and acting.
Best,
Joanie
Hi, Mike –
That was a real classy letter you sent! Thank you for letting us know more about Edson and his many dimensions. Seeing such a letter in 2009 is pretty special, and I’m glad you wrote it! Since I’m usually at work when he’d be here, please convey my best regards!
Thanks,
- Melissa
Dear Mike, That was such a nice letter you wrote about your longterm employee. He must be so pleased. I hope he has great success in his future. It is also nice that he had an employer like you. Hope he follows your example. Sincerely, Peg
Dear Mike,
I’m writing to let you know what a terrific letter you wrote about Edson. I knew that he was extremely nice and did great work, but of course I had no idea that he was also a writer, actor and now, perhaps, Broadway author – who knew! It was incredibly good of you to write about him and to acknowledge all the help he’s given you over the years – it says a lot about you, as an employer and as a person. Thank you for sharing your appreciation of Edson’s hard work and good luck.
I also came across an interesting story in today’s New York Times, about Harvard’s ventures into organically grown grass. If you haven’t seen it yet, I think you’d enjoy it. It’s at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/24/garden/24garden.html?ref=garden
Can’t imagine why Harvard is so late in coming to the amazing qualities of compost tea – you (and even I, thanks ti you) knew about it years ago!!
Best,
Jane
Mike:
I just had to write and tell you that I believe that you did a wonderful thing in sending us the letter of Edson’s adventure.
The letter just confirms for me that I made the correct decision to put the fate of my lawn in your hands……confirms for me that you are indeed, the type of man that I thought you were.
Bravo!!!
By the way…that mysterious brown spot in my back yard up and turned green on me…..for no apparent reason…..
Take care,
Steve
Hi, Mike,
I was just going through a pile of badly neglected paperwork and came upon your charming letter about Edson, then read the notice that was left here with your comment about the sunrise. I just wanted you to know how much you brightened my day.
I hope you are enjoying this glorious sunshine today. Thanks for your nice notes. It’s a pleasure doing business with you.
Cheers,
Gabrielle
